Yesterday’s Craftsmanship Can Help with Today’s Financial Needs
Antique jewelry often tells a story. It may have been passed down through generations, discovered in an estate, or collected because of its craftsmanship and history. While these pieces often carry sentimental value, they can also provide financial flexibility through a pawn loan when unexpected expenses arise.
Since 2014, Oro Express Mesa Pawn & Gold has helped customers throughout Mesa and the East Valley borrow against valuable jewelry with fair evaluations and transparent loan terms. If you have antique jewelry you’re considering using as collateral, we’ll take the time to evaluate it carefully and explain your options.
What Is Considered Antique Jewelry?
Many people use the terms antique, vintage, and estate jewelry interchangeably, but they don’t always mean the same thing.
Generally speaking:
- Antique jewelry is often considered to be around 100 years old or older.
- Vintage jewelry is older jewelry that doesn’t quite meet the antique age range.
- Estate jewelry simply means previously owned jewelry, regardless of its age.
Some pieces may fit into more than one category, which is why every evaluation is performed individually.
What Types of Antique Jewelry Can Be Pawned?
We evaluate many different styles of jewelry, including:
- Antique rings
- Victorian jewelry
- Art Deco jewelry
- Edwardian jewelry
- Antique brooches
- Lockets
- Cameos
- Bracelets
- Necklaces
- Earrings
- Gold antique jewelry
- Platinum antique jewelry
- Diamond antique jewelry
If you’re unsure whether your jewelry qualifies, bring it in and we’ll be happy to take a look.
How We Evaluate Antique Jewelry
Unlike many modern jewelry pieces, antique jewelry may have value for several different reasons.
Our evaluation may consider:
- Precious metal content
- Gold purity
- Diamond and gemstone quality
- Craftsmanship
- Overall condition
- Age
- Design characteristics
- Maker’s marks or hallmarks
- Current market demand
Some antique jewelry derives most of its value from the precious metals it contains, while other pieces may also be desirable because of their craftsmanship, rarity, or collectability. Every piece is evaluated individually.
Antique Jewelry vs. Estate Jewelry
Many people assume antique jewelry and estate jewelry mean the same thing, but they’re actually different.
Estate jewelry simply refers to jewelry that has been previously owned. It could be only a few years old or it could be over a century old.
Antique jewelry generally refers to jewelry that is around 100 years old or older. These pieces may have additional value because of their age, craftsmanship, design, or historical significance.
That means every antique jewelry piece is considered estate jewelry, but not every estate jewelry piece is antique.
If your jewelry was inherited from a family member or purchased from an estate, but you’re unsure how old it is, don’t worry. We’ll evaluate it individually and explain what factors contribute to its value.

Hallmarks and Maker’s Marks
Many older jewelry pieces include small stamps or markings that help identify the metal content, manufacturer, or country of origin.
These markings can sometimes provide useful information during the evaluation process, but they are only one part of the overall assessment.
If you know anything about the history of your jewelry, we’re always happy to hear it.
Does Antique Jewelry Need to Be Perfect?
Not at all.
Many antique pieces show signs of age, and that’s perfectly normal.
Loose stones, worn clasps, or everyday wear don’t automatically prevent jewelry from qualifying for a pawn loan. We’ll evaluate the piece as a whole and explain what factors influence its value.
Your Jewelry Is Secure During the Loan
We understand that antique jewelry is often irreplaceable.
Once your pawn loan is completed, your jewelry is carefully documented and securely stored throughout the loan period. When your loan is repaid, your jewelry is returned to you.
Pawn loans follow Arizona’s 90-day loan schedule with monthly interest payments. You’re welcome to pay your loan off early without penalty, and if you need additional time, keeping your interest payments current allows your loan to remain in good standing under Arizona law.
Questions We Hear About Antique Jewelry
Does antique jewelry have to be over 100 years old?
Not necessarily. While the traditional definition of antique jewelry is around 100 years old, we evaluate jewelry based on its overall characteristics and value rather than age alone.
Can broken antique jewelry still qualify?
Yes. Depending on the materials, craftsmanship, and condition, broken antique jewelry may still qualify for a pawn loan.
Should I clean my antique jewelry first?
A gentle cleaning is fine, but avoid aggressive polishing or repairs before bringing it in. Original finishes and details can sometimes be important.
What if I don’t know how old my jewelry is?
That’s completely normal. Bring it in and we’ll evaluate it and explain what we observe during the process.
